Basset hound/Vizsla Mix
Hi, my name is Chance! I got my name from a kind woman in Texas who saved me from the streets after my owner dumped me there when he didn't want me any more. She made sure I got into rescue so I could have a better life. After coming to Wisconsin I got into a foster home with other dogs and even a cat, and my foster mom has been able to learn a lot about me the last few weeks.
My foster mom would tell you I am one of the most fun, cuddly, energetic fosters she has ever had! That is probably because I am a basset mix of some type and the vet person thinks Vizsla is a good guess. I am very friendly with people and will jump right up into your lap, but I can take a few minutes before I am comfortable with someone new. Despite being a good eater, I have stayed trim by being busy! I really like to play "fetch" with a stick or a squeaky. I also like to run around and wrestle with other dogs. I can be loving and sweet with them too. I have done well with a dog savvy cat and know to leave him be but I would NOT be safe with other critters as I go crazy after the squirrels and anything else I can see in the yard.
Speaking of yards, a fenced yard would be good for my running time BUT I can jump pretty high so it really needs to be tall and secure if I will be out there running free. I also like to let myself out there if the door isn't latched tight or is easy to open. I have been digging a few holes because I am a dog! I would love a family to walk me daily but I do need work on that. I am a strong boy with a low center of gravity. My mom is home much of the time so I do go outside regularly during the day. I have not had problems waiting to potty outdoors and seem to be potty-trained but she doesn't really know how I would do if home alone more often since I haven't had to be. I have not had to be crated when she does leave for short trips. As long as I have plenty of toys out, I leave other things alone. However, my mom does make sure things are picked up so I am not tempted.
I have discovered I really love the couch, so I wouldn't do well in a no-dogs-on-the-furniture-home. I also love sleeping in bed with my mom. I am a world class snuggle bug. When I am awake and get excited, I do have a very loud voice that would prevent me from being a good candidate for an apartment or condo, or any other living situation with close neighbors. I am very food motivated and that is helping me start to learn some basic commands. I need a family to continue with my training. I also like cat food so that needs to be kept in a safe place and I taught my foster mom not to leave it on the table because I can find it there too. I love to ride in the passenger seat of the car and go to dog-friendly places.
So basically I have a really loving personality that basset people love, but I also need an active owner to keep up with the Vizsla side of me as well. And as a young guy, I still need training work to help me become the most perfect doggo. If that could be you, please fill out the adoption application under the "Adoption" heading so a volunteer can reach out to you.
