Fostered In Wisconsin
Daily Routine: Hi, my name is Joey! I like to start my day by standing on foster mom and licking and walking on her until she wakes up! If the sun is awake, I'm awake. Every morning I run around with my foster dog siblings outside, then I come in ready for breakfast. We all eat separately and I know where to go and which bowl will be mine! Once I'm full I love snuggling my human siblings! I am a very loving and social boy and like to be with other dogs and/or people at all times. I spend the day going in and out to run with my fur siblings, following mom around the house to help with chores, and playing with my 4 year old girl. In the evenings I love our night time walk. I do fairly well following the pack but as any basset does I can get distracted. If it is quiet I may be full steam ahead but loud noises and trucks spook me and I am less sure about walking, so a home in a loud, busy neighborhood is not for me. At night I settle fine as long as no one else is trying to get me to play, and I usually sleep next to mom unless I get uncomfortable and move to a dog bed.
What I love to do: I love chewing on dog toys and have plenty of them to keep me busy. I love snuggling, and bouncing and running and being with others. As a young pup still I am looking for a home where there is a lot of time for me.
Personal goals: Mom doesn't let me in the dinning room while they eat because my table surfing is TERRIBLE and I don't respond yet to "down" or "no". Obviously, don't leave any food out on the counters either! I will get growly when bigger dogs crowd me but sometimes it is overwhelming to be the smallest among 6 dogs so I am just letting them know I need a little air.
Favorite thing to do with my best friend: I love laying on my moms foot when she is on the computer, or doing laundry, or doing anything. I love snuggling my people in bed or on the couch. When my family is busy its ok because I love chasing and wrestling with my foster brother Barnaby or any other dogs that want to play.
Kind of family do I want: I am still young and need to be able to go out potty during the day and usually once during the night as well. I still need someone to be around a fair amount and to help me work on a few training improvements. As I said, I just love other people and dogs and need lots of interaction. But I am very short so I would be overwhelmed by big dogs that play too rough. I am more on the submissive side. Which actually makes it hard to meet new people. Or go to the vet. But I get used to strangers fairly quickly.
Biggest fears: Being alone a lot! I have been crated fine, although my foster family leaves me out in the house with the other dogs without an issue. But I am too young and too social to spend long days alone. Plus I would have a hard time holding my potty.
Ideal weekend plans: I love being with my family, whether we snuggle and watch a movie or go explore outdoors. I am from Texas but wouldn't you know it, snow suits me just fine. I don't really mind the rain or wet either as long as someone is with me. I am not sure how to handle myself in the car yet but I just haven't had a lot of experience. I just can't wait to be the newest member of a family.
