Hi, My name is Walter, and here are some things you should know about me...
Daily Routine: I get up, go potty, eat (no later than 7 am), sleep, go out, take a walk, sleep…..repeat the eating at 5pm, and repeat. I am told that I go out about every 2 hours and then return to take a nap….really laid back!
What I love to do: I love short walks, sitting outside in WARM weather and watch the squirrels, birds, and rabbits….sniffing around….sleeping. NO running, just slow walks (sometimes I fall if I walk too fast or too far) and I am usually walking behind my foster mom! And sniffing for all those ‘good smells’ that us hounds love!
Personal goals: I don’t need training…but I have trained my foster mom well! She just lets me out every couple of hours, feeds me at 7 am and 5 pm, and takes me for a couple of short walks (she calls them ‘around the long block’, around the ‘short block’ and to the ‘post office’.)
Favorite thing to do with my best friend: My foster family has Bashful, my foster brother who is also ‘older’. We are pretty laid back! We don’t ‘ruff-house’ (those days are over). But we sure like to chill! Lots of sleeping/napping and just laying around watching my foster mom and dad. We like to lay in the front yard IF my people are in the front yard! (Then I can watch the people walk past! But I rarely bark!!!)
Kind of family I want: I would like my family to be home most of the time, so I can watch them! I wouldn’t mind another ‘old and friendly dog’. As for kids….I only saw older grandkids, (9 or older) here. But I didn’t mind being petted by kids when I am taking walks. I liked it when my foster mom would stop and talk and I can watch the neighbor kids run around and stop to give me ‘pets’. My foster mom never allowed them to hug me, though.
Biggest fears: My mom and dad don’t know about ‘thunder’ or any other fears. She calls me ‘mellow’. (Thunder hasn't happened….maybe with the spring showers.)
Ideal weekend plans: My foster parents are talking about something called ‘camping’. Sounds like fun! I like riding in the truck, meeting people, laying around in the sun and sleeping! I have to use a ramp to get into/out off a truck or car but this ‘camping’ sounds like a great time to do the things I like….lay around, watch birds, squirrels, etc, sleep, lay around, watch people, sleep and mellow out!! (Then repeat!)
My foster mom loves me and has no problem letting me stay as long as I like, but if you are looking to open your home to a sweet senior boy, please fill out the application on our website under the 'Adoption' heading, where you can also find out more about Basset Buddies while you wait to hear back from a volunteer.
